Fun Activity: IISS Goes to “City of Heroes” Surabaya
At the end of 2021, SD IISS Malang held a fun activity in the city of Surabaya, precisely on December 14, 2021. The road we took was quite far, after a long journey. Finally we have arrived in the city of Surabaya
If we talk about the city of Surabaya, what do you think is on your mind? As a city dubbed the ‘City of Heroes’, this city has indeed become a historical place where Arek-Arek Suroboyo bravely fought for the independence of the Indonesian people, with the sweat of their blood to defend an inch of the motherland.
It is not surprising that in the city of Surabaya, various monuments were built to commemorate and honor the services of the heroes. And one of the most famous monuments in the city of Surabaya which is our goal is the Submarine Monument (Monkasel).
Arriving there, we were immediately delivered by a tour guide to go up the stairs into the ship to dive deeper into this monument. The heroic scent slowly started to feel as we entered the ship’s hull. It turns out that this submarine is very large. There are several rooms in this ship which are divided into several parts, such as the crew’s bed, sonar room, engine room, torpedo room, officer room, diesel room, periscope room, and several other rooms. Our tour guide explains in detail to the children the parts that are in the ship’s room.
After seeing firsthand the inside of the submarine, we were delivered into a movie screening room like a cinema. Here we watched a documentary about the history of the Indonesian Navy and the beginning of this submarine. This submarine is a submarine KRI Pasopati 410, one of the Indonesian Navy’s fleet made by the Soviet Union in 1952. This submarine was once involved in the operation to liberate West Irian from Dutch occupation, known as the Battle of the Aru Sea. A few years later, this submarine was brought ashore and used as a monument to commemorate the bravery of Indonesian heroes. We learned many things about the courage of Indonesian heroes to expel the invaders at that time. ugh, that’s really cool. Moreover, this submarine museum is the largest submarine museum in Asia.
After leaving Monkasel, we continued our trip to the Surabaya Zoo. This study tour aims to introduce students to the surrounding environment, especially to know God’s creatures, namely animals, so that they will grow a sense of affection for God’s creatures.
After arrival at the zoo, the students were guided by the teachers explaining the animals they saw and feeding directly to some of the animals. Students are very enthusiastic to visit the Surabaya Zoo. Don’t forget to take photos in instagrammable spots to match current trends.
Each animal is placed in a different area and is limited by walls, and iron fences are very strong, so that visitors can be safe and each security makes its own way to avoid things that should not be asked for.
The air in the area is quite hot. The place is very spacious so we were quite satisfied to walk around it. After feeling tired, we looked for a place to take shelter and rest while enjoying the lunch that we had prepared.
The day rose in the evening and then we rushed back to Malang. On the way home we stopped praying at the Al-Akbar National Mosque which is the second largest mosque in Indonesia after the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta. The mosque which is usually called the Great Mosque of Surabaya looks very majestic and beautiful. After everyone finished praying, we had time to take pictures in front of the mosque and the children returned in an orderly manner to get on the bus to continue our journey home.
Wow, what a fun trip this time. Not only fun but educational too. Even though they look tired because the journey is quite far, it looks like the children are enjoying this trip.(gr)
